Great effective brake to use on small to medium size hills. Great for stop signs as well as controlling speed on larger hills. This brake is really light, strong, effective, and easy to install on your Pursuit rollerskis. To engage, put braking foot forward and have your weight shifted back so you are stable, and then pull up on the pull handle. Practice braking on the flats first. Wear is light on the brake under normal use.

Note: As of April 2021, we have updated the design improving the vertical brake arm piece to have a tooth to interact with the top of the forks: Pursuit straight frame models, Pursuit Fork Flex regular and Plus, and Pursuit Fork Flex Elite and Extra Flex versions. When installing put the lock washer on opposite side of the tooth, between the outside of the fork and vertical brake arms. Replace the lock washer every time you remove the brake or remove that wheel. Just ask for them when you buy replacement wheels. As of June 15, 2021 we updated the friction piece. Picture is updated showing these slight design tweaks that have made the brake better for smoother braking power.

Braking Installation and Safety

1. Remove one of your axle bolts as you’ll be using the longer bolt that we ship to hold the brake on.

2. Put the brake arms over the outside of the forks with the spring on the back side.

3. Place a lock washer on opposite side of the tooth that interacts with the top of your fork. The tooth prevents forward rotation. The lock washer prevents it from moving opposite direction going back. Tighten axle tightly.

4. To adjust for skier’s height, the bungee section above the pull handle can be adjusted by sliding more or less through the cord lock and you can cut off the extra once you get a feel for how much length you need. The cord should be snug. You can detach it from the waist belt and attach to a water bottle holder as well. No need to retie any knots for installation.

5. Check before rollerskiing to make sure everything is operational and nothing tangled, and that the connection to the brake level looks secure with no fraying or loosening. Heat build up on medium size hills is ok but extensive long hills could create a lot of heat buildup, so we advise avoiding huge hills or using in the mountains. The way we tie the knot on the brake lever through a metal ring first and then loop the end through two more times is done to prevent heat build up from affecting the connection and secondly to prevent vibration. Be aware braking power is reduced in wet conditions.

If installing on IDT skate rollerskis, choose the "For Pursuit T6004 or T6005 with axle bolt 2.5 mm up (post Oct 2021 production)" option as we tested it and it fits.

If installing on Swix Roadline skate rollerskis, choose the "For Pursuit T6004 or T6005 with axle bolt 2.5 mm up (post Oct 2021 production)" option and mention in order note for Swix Roadline. This way we ship a longer 60 mm axle bolt since the Swix aluminum frame is wider at 45mm. It will lean forward about 5 degrees on Swix for when the little tooth rests on the top of the fork on one side to prevent forward rotation of the brake. The tooth positions are based on Pursuit geometry but it works.

    New roller ski brake

Nice upgrade to the brake. Now it won’t rotate forward if the axle is not torqued enough. I’d Ike a similar one designed to work on my classic skis.

    Works perfectly

It does exactly what I need it to! I feel so much safer roller skiing with this. NOT good for quick stops through, I learned that the hard way. It's easy to use and the waist belt is comfortable, can't even tell it's there while skiing. It was a bit difficult to install, specifically getting the bearing through the washers.

    Pursuit Skate Roller Ski Brake

Posted by Gilles on May 5th 2020

Bought the brake for my Rundle Sport Flex Skate roller skis. This brake is compatible with my Rundles. Really happy with my purchase. Very easy to install, the brake doesn't add unwanted weight to the ski, and the braking system is very efficient. Great product for the price. Also very satisfied with Rollerski Shop customer service. If you're looking for a brake, I highly recommend.

Excellent durability and ease of install and use

Posted by Tom Hunter on Apr 7th 2020

Strongly recommended for rolling terrain. Particularly for those just learning the sport, a brake to provide secure control on longer steeper sections is, to me, a requirement. I need it a bit less often now, but for my .5mi long, 4%+ dam descents, it is still soooo useful. When it's not in use, it's like it's not even there. Wheel wear from it is not noticeable to me.

    Sweet brake

This is what you want. I put this brake on an old pair of marwe 610's and it preforms flawlessly. Plenty of power and is not noticeable during skiing. The instructions are clear and I had the brake set up in about 20 minutes. Yeah you can snowplow or grass brake, but this is so much easier/safer especially on bigger hills and higher speeds.

    Pull brake

Posted by Tristan Spilsted on Jul 26th 2019

Added the brake to a pair of Rundle Sport Flex Skate rollerskis, great customer service making sure it would fit correctly, it sure does and the braking is very effective. The handle to engage the brake was too low even adjusted fully upwards for me (6' 1") but I've modified the line by adding an adjustable clip for the shock cord and put a quick release to allow easy detaching of the rollerski from the line. Would've been nice if these features came with it. But a simple brake that adds confidence while rolling around the hills.

    Pursuit Roller Ski Brake

Posted by Rob Nadeau on Feb 1st 2019

The Pursuit Roller Ski Brake uses a simple design and delivers outstanding performance! As a high school coach, I always worry about safety when out roller skiing. There have not been a lot of products that are easy to install, truly functional and don't interfere with the performance of the ski. The Pursuit Roller Ski Brake gets 5 stars in each category! Give it a try, you will be pleased to know that your skiers can access more terrain with a greater degree of control. As a bonus, the owner, Clayton Keim, is responsive and a pleasure to work with. Great Product-Great Company!

    Rollerski brake

I bought this for a trip I had planned to Frisco Colorado. The brake worked as described, the only thing I didn’t care for was the handle was about 6 inches low for me. I also wish there was a quick disconnect on the metal part that brakes the wheel.

Awesome! Great for added safety on downhills & flats.

Posted by Henry Reich on Feb 28th 2018

I highly recommend this brake for skate rollerskiing in general, and especially for use in steep hilly areas. I bought one when I moved from the midwest to Montana, where there aren't rolling hills but instead longer & steeper uphills (and thus downhills). It has totally opened up my range of possibilities for rollerskiing, and generally increases safety around town at stoplights and so on. It works great, I just clip the belt attachment into my water belt and away I go. The correct braking stance takes a little practice, but what aspect of skiing doesn't?

    Brake review

This is a pretty slick devic. It seems questionable with it being attached to a belt but it really works well. It takes some getting used to but onc you do it works well and gives you a little more confidence that you can have some additional control.
